Varus osteotomy, described by Pauwels (1950, 1961, 1963a, b, 1965a, b, 1973a, b) as a basic treatment for OA, enjoyed great popularity, but later on in many clinics it fell into disuse. This was probably because a majority of surgeons did not realize the exact indication for such an osteotomy or performed it wrongly (or both), or had too much confidence in THR.
