The Hyperfine Interaction

Abstract

In this chapter we shall apply the formalism of effective operators, introduced in the previous chapter, to the hyperfine interaction. The idea of using effective operators to analyze experimental hyperfine data has gradually developed over the years. It has long been known that a significantly improved fit to the experimental results can be obtained if the radial integrals appearing in the hyperfine Hamiltonian are treated as free parameters in a way similar to our treatment of the Slater parameters in the previous chapter.
