Wir behandeln in diesem Kapitel die Elektronenterme und die optischen Spektren von Kristallen, die Ionen mit nicht abgeschlossenen („offenen“) Elektronenschalen enthalten. Die Bedeutung gerade dieser Substanzen und ihre Abgrenzung gegen andere Ionenkristalle ergeben sich aus der Diskussion in Ziffer 14.1.
