Zusammenfassung

Die malignen Tumoren im Kindesalter sind heute von großer Bedeutung: einerseits stellen sie die Krankheitsgruppe dar, die bei Kindern am häufigsten zum Tode führt (nur die Unfälle sind eine noch häufigere Todesursache), andererseits kann bei optimaler Behandlung bereits heute mit einer Heilung bei der Hälfte der Patienten gerechnet werden. Trotz der erwähnten großen Bedeutung für die Morbidität und Mortalität im Kindesalter sind sie absolut gesehen selten: ihre Häufigkeit liegt etwa bei 11–12 pro 100000 Kinder unter 16 Jahren pro Jahr. Es wird etwa ein Kind mit Malignom auf 75 krebskranke Erwachsene beobachtet. In der Schweiz ist mit etwa 200 bis 250 neuen Erkrankungen pro Jahr zu rechnen. Die Häufigkeit ist im ersten bis 5. Lebensjahr am größten; ungefähr die Hälfte der Malignóme wird in dieser Altersgruppe diagnostiziert. Nur ein Fünftel entfällt auf die 11–16jährigen, wobei die Morbidität mit jedem Lebensjahr abnimmt. Knaben haben gegenüber Mädchen ein leicht erhöhtes Tumorrisiko, etwa 1,3:1,1.
