Zusammenfassung
Der Name Myxovirus soll darauf hinweisen, daß diese Viren eine bestimmte Afdnität zu Mucinen besitzen. Er wurde ursprünglich für die zuerst entdeckten Mitglieder dieser Gruppe, die Influenza-Viren, vorgeschlagen, die jetzt als Orthomyxoviridae bezeichnet werden. Diese Viren sind pleomorph und enthalten RNS in einem helicalen Nucleocapsid, das von einer Ätherempfindlichen Hülle umgeben ist. Andere Viren — wie Mumps-, Masern-, RS- und Parainfluenza-Viren — gleichen ihnen in einigen Eigenschaften; in anderen wesentüchen Eigenschaften unterscheiden sie sich jedoch deudich von den Orthomyxoviren und wurden aus diesem Grund in einer eigenen Familie, Paramyxoviridae, zusammengefaßt. Der Durchmesser der inneren Ribonucleoprotein(RNP)-Helix beträgt bei den Orthomyxoviridae 9 nm, bei den Paramyxoviridae dagegen 18 nm (s. Kapitel 35).
