Abstract

Neoplasms of the liver are infrequent but not very rare in infancy and childhood [11]. Carcinoma of the liver is the third commonest abdominal cancer among Japanese children [18]. Although the prognosis for children with this tumour has generally been considered hopeless, recent reports [9, 16, 17] have disclosed that the operative results of malignant liver tumours, particularly liver-cell carcinoma, are much more favourable in children than in adults.
