Summary
Concomitant significant arteriosclerotic disease of coronary and carotid arteries is a frequent entity and simultaneous surgery appears to be indicated in certain cases.
The time sequence of the two revascularisation procedures, however, has been controversial. Whereas in the past carotid endarterectomy (CEA) was performed before extracorporeal circulation (ecc), we now have routinely applied a concept where the carotid intervention was performed after distal coronary anastomoses, in hypothermia and during ecc.
The results are analysed of 28 patients who underwent this procedure.
