Abstract
Pulse oximetry is used worldwide as a standard technique to monitor arterial hemoglobin oxygen saturation (8). Further, it is a promising tool towards the aim of developing a noninvasive, sensitive, and specific monitor of intrapartum fetal well-being by real-time measurement of fetal arterial oxygen saturation as well as the fetal heart rate (2). Currently used methods of fetal monitoring such as cardiotocography (CTG) and fetal scalp blood sampling either need higher specificity and sensitivity, or are invasive and uncomfortable to the fetus and the mother (3,7).
