Zusammenfassung
Phyxie heißt auf Griechisch der Puls, entsprechend bedeutet Asphyxie ohne Puls oder Pulslosigkeit. Laut Duden wird dem Wort Asphyxie im Deutschen die Bezeichnung Scheintod gleichgesetzt. Leider wird mit dem Wort Asphyxie in der Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie sehr großzügig umgegangen, ohne daß es in der neonatologischen Literatur eine klare Definition dieses Begriffs gibt. Streng genommen sollte man im Sinne des Wortes Pulslosigkeit oder Scheintod nur bei einem Apgar-Wert von 0–1 die Diagnose Asphyxie verwenden. Als Folge eines zu leichtfertigen Gebrauchs dürfen wir uns nicht wundern, wenn von Laien und Juristen im Falle eines späteren Hirnschadens die Diagnose Asphyxie als möglicherweise vermeidbare Komplikation der Perinatalperiode bei Regreßforderungen aufgegriffen wird (1, 6).
