Abstract

In their 1942 publication, Stout and Murray reported nine cases of a tumour of organoid nature which they distinguished clearly from glomus tumour, and which they had previously proved, by tissue culture, to consist of cells derived from the pericytes of Zimmermann. It also differed from haemangioma by the presence of perivascular cells which they identified as pericytic in nature. The authors suggested the descriptive term of haemangiopericytoma for this tumour.
