Evaluation of Three-Dimensional CT in Orofacial Surgery

Summary

Fifty-two patients with tumors and fractures of the visceral cranium were tested to demonstrate what additional information could be obtained with three-dimensional CT reconstructions as compared to conventional transaxial CT slices. 3D CT was seen to reproduce the spatial relationships in complex bony destructions more cleary and thereby contribute towards an improved therapeutical plan and postoperative follow-up controls. Transaxial CT, however, remains the basis for diagnostic information.
