Zusammenfassung

Diabetes mellitus, und zwar juvenil erworbene wie familiäre Formen, wie auch der „Altersdiabetes“ sind häufig mit Herz-/Gefäßerkrankungen assoziiert. Diabetes ist als Risikofaktor erster Ordnung für die Entstehung einer Arteriosklerose bekannt und ist besonders dann wirksam, wenn er mit anderen Risikofaktoren (Hypertonie, Hypercholesterinämie, Zigarettenrauchen) assoziiert ist.
