Summary
The paper begins by describing the present state of the art of graphic programming by means of ladder diagrams and control system flowcharts. The programming of sequential controls using the GRAPH programming language, which is under consideration by IEC for standardization, already constitutes the transition to graphics system configuring.
Its future possibilities concerning hardware as well as software are pointed out by way of example of a modular closed-loop system.
System configuring stored in data servers can be used for graphic fault diagnostics and fault location.
