Abstract

Many autopsy studies have been made on stenotic changes at the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery, which are known to be the initial cause of moyamoya disease. Nonetheless, the essential nature of the pathology involved has remained unclear. This unsatisfactory situation with regard to our understanding of the pathology of moyamoya disease has prompted us to make a study of the findings from all of those autopsy studies reported over the past 20 years.
