Abstract
Recent epidemiological research on risk factors (Stamler et al., 1974), pioneered by Paul D. White and Ancel Keys, has contributed greatly toward the elucidation of risk factors, and various risk factors such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, cigarette smoking, etc., which lead to the progression of atherosclerosis, have been clearly identified. Following the discovery of such factors, various attempts toward their elimination have been successfully mode, particularly after the successful identification of individual cholesterol-bearing lipoproteins such as HDL, LDL, VLDL, chylomicron, etc. by Donald S. Fredrickson and his collaborators (Levy and Stone, 1974).
