Abstract
All along the preceding description cartilages were encountered which, in agreement with the accepted terminology were either rings, modified rings, plates and carinal cartilages. If modified rings and rings which had the same properties could be considered under the same heading, the same could be said of plates and tertiary carinal cartilages, provided the latter ones were assimilated to modified plates adapted to the bifurcation of tertiary or segmental bronchi. Rings and plates were ultimately the two different shapes in which the cartilages appeared in the bronchial tree.
