Zusammenfassung
Viren sind biologische Objekte, die keinen eigenen Stoffwechsel unterhalten und sich nur mit Hilfe des genetischen und metabolischen Apparates einer Wirtszelle vermehren können. Es handelt sich also sozusagen um „Parasiten auf molekularem Niveau“. Ist die Wirtszelle ein Bacterium, so spricht man von Bakteriophagen oder kurz von Phagen. Da diese Bakterien-Viren gründlicher hinsichtlich ihrer Reaktion auf ionisierende Strahlen untersucht worden sind, stammt ein großer Teil des im folgenden benutzten experimentellen Materials von Untersuchungen an Bakteriophagen.
