Zusammenfassung
Verantwortlich für eine Speicherung von Stoffwechselprodukten ist in erster Linie die für die speichernden Zellen spezifische Art des Stoffwechsels. Zu oft wurde diese wesentlichste Voraussetzung in den Lehrbüchern übergangen und das Gewicht der Betrachtung einseitig auf eine Begleiterscheinung der Speicherung verlegt, nämlich den Zustrom des zur Bildung der Reservestoffe Anlaß gebenden Materials. Die sekundäre Bedeutung des Transports als Teil des Speicherungsmechanismus ergibt sich schon aus folgenden Überlegungen. In den niederen undifferenzierten Thallophyten können Speicherungsvorgänge für sich allein beobachtet werden; auch in höheren Pflanzen ist bei gleichem Ausgangsmaterial die Art der gespeicherten Substanzen artspezifisch; die Bedingung, daß genügende Mengen an Ausgangsstoffen vorhanden sein müssen, ist allein ungenügend, um eine Speicherung auszulösen.
