FUMIDS (Fever of Unknown origin in MIscellaneous diseases Diagnosis System) has been developed for the practical use in the hospitals to assist doctors in making a differential diagnosis among febrile diseases, or fever of unknown origin (FUO). The diagnostic approach is devided into two main steps with a hypothetico-deductive method, in which FUMIDS selects the probable diseases from essential data and deals with more specific data to compare a case with diagnostic criteria. The level of intelligence of FUMIDS was considered as the same or better than that of interns and whole working time for one case was in twenty minutes on the average. More than 95% of simulation cases it selected a correct diagnosis and offered proper procedures to make a more precise diagnosis.
