Abstract

Having participated in two projects where American software was converted for use in international markets practicing socialised medicine, this paper considers the merits of using existing software rather than bespoke solutions. Work on these projects, involved research and analysis of work methods and management practices in two medium sized US hospitals, two Irish hospitals, and three Australian hospitals. Other sources of reference included statements of requirements from hospitals in Oman, Hong Kong, England and Italy. Method used involved interviews with key departamental managers and were followed by questionaires for more detailed analysis. Supporting documentation and reports were gathered to verify the information provided at the time of interview.
