Zusammenfassung
Ein ideales bildgebendes Verfahren zur Darstellung der Prostata sollte die folgenden drei Forderungen erfüllen: Eine hohe Orts- und Kontrastauflösung für das Drüsengewebe, eine exakte Abgrenzbarkeit der Prostata gegenüber allen Nachbarstrukturen im kleinen Becken, und schließlich eine präzise Steuerung der Feinnadelbiopsie. Zu diesen spezifischen Anforderungen kommen weitere, allgemeine Gesichtspunkte hinzu, wie die Untersuchungskosten, die Untersuchungsdauer und die Verfügbarkeit für den Patienten. Legt man diese Kriterien zugrunde, so muß die transrektale Sonographie als bildgebendes Verfahren der ersten Wahl angesehen werden, da sie den genannten Anforderungen in ausreichendem Maße gerecht wird.
