Abstract

During the 36 years of its existence, in the GDR a high level of health protection of the population has been achieved and an efficient health service has been built up in keeping with the social development. In this way the stipulations of the Constitution of the GDR to guarantee the protection and promotion of the health of all citizens are realized. During the past 15 years there has been, above all, a very rapid development of the human, material and financial prerequisites for the health and social care of the population.
