The paper is concerned with the development and functioning of a Hospital information system under conditions of inadequate hardware.Patient administrative and Clinical departmental systems have been discussed in separate sections. For each of these two information subsystems, a survey of standard hardware equipment has been given and alternative approaches to problem solution under existing conditions suggested. Actual examples describing the implementation of the presented information subsystems within the Zagreb University Hospital Centre have been provided.
