Abstract
The screening of patients with suspected intoxication by a drug overdose is complicated by the great number of available drugs which may be involved. Furthermore the techniques used for detection of these drugs may also detect a number of chemicals such as food additives, plasticizers and non-toxic therapeutic drugs. Considerable experience and documentation is needed to identify an unknown drug in a case of overdose. We have developed a computer based method to aid in quickly and reliably identifying drugs in cases of suspected overdose. The system consists of a data base with drug information, and a set of programs to search and use this information.
