Summary

Methods for computer-aided classification of severity grades for the following three chronic diseases were developed: chronic bronchitis, chronic ischemic heart disease, chronic diseases of the joints and connective tissues.

A team of physicians assigned one out of four severity grades to each patient taking part in the study. Simultaneously, a computer program calculated severity grades when a certain combination of items in a questionnaire applied to a patient.

The so-called accuracy rate was determined by dividing the number of patients with the two resulting severity grades in agreement by the total number of patients. The accuracy rate amounted to 81.0% in chronic bronchitis, 91.9% in chronic ischemic heart disease, and 91.5% in the chronic diseases of the joints and connective tissues.
