An Information-theoretic Approach to the Organization of Police Forces

  • Chapter
Current Topics in Cybernetics and Systems

Abstract

This paper uses an information theoretic approach to examine the effects of different types of police organisation on information flows. A number of criminal scenarios are considered, including areas where crime is predominantly local and areas, where there is a substantial element of high criminal mobility. Particular attention is given to determining the conditions under which police forces should be amalgamated and special squads formed.
