Abstract

A system theoretic analysis of the proper role for System Dynamics finds it bounded within the range of finite-state and simpler stochastic-state systems. When these abstract system referents are operationalized, we find an essential role for system dynamics in the analysis and management of job shops and process shops, respectively. In simpler system contexts, System Dynamics becomes gratuitous; in the face of more complex contents, System Dynamics cannot resolve the structures nor adequately comprehend and order the behavioral alternatives.
