Abstract

Macroscopic elementary reactions occur as results of statistical sums and averages over various microscopic elementary processes between the individual atoms and molecules of reacting substances. Here we confine ourselves to the case of two s u b s t a n c e s P and Q (reactants) undergoing an elementary gas-phase reaction of the type
$$P + Q \to X + Y + \ldots$$

leading to the substances X, Y, …(products).
