Determination of tritium in biological material

Abstract

With the increasing use of tritium as a radioactive tracer for biochemical studies, the availability of a simple and accurate method for the determination of this isotope in organic compounds and especially in biological materials is of considerable practical importance. Because of the low energy of the β-emanation from tritium disintegration (0.018 MEV), direct counting of thin films of tritiated material using end-window or gas-flow counters is not well suited for precise measurements.
