Zusammenfassung

Die Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Diagnostik und chirurgischen Behandlung haben die angeborenen Herzfehler mehr und mehr in den Blickpunkt des Interesses gerückt. Da früher eine korrekte klinische Diagnose nicht möglich war, die Pathologen aber eine Minus-Auslese sehen, waren die Angaben über die Häufigkeit und Lebenserwartung der verschiedenen Fehlbildungen einseitig. In neuerer Zeit werden die kongenitalen Vitien häufiger diagnostiziert, durch spezielle Untersuchungen differenziert und durch chirurgische Eingriffe bestätigt, so daß wir heute nicht allein auf die pathologisch-anatomische Diagnose angewiesen sind. Die in sog. Herzzentren gewonnenen Statistiken stellen aber ebenfalls eine Auslese dar, weil die in den ersten Lebensmonaten sterbenden Kinder nicht berücksichtigt werden. Für die Beurteilung der Lebenserwartung ist es daher erforderlich, die Häufigkeit der angeborenen Herzfehler, die prozentuale Beteiligung der verschiedenen Anomalien und schließlich das Spätschicksal jeder einzelnen Fehlbildung — ohne und mit Behandlung — zu kennen.
