Zusammenfassung
Jegliche körperliche Arbeit geht mit einer Steigerung des Sauerstoffverbrauches einher; denn das bei der Arbeit zum Schwinden gebrachte Glykogen der Muskulatur muß oxydiert werden, weswegen der arbeitende Körper mehr Sauerstoff benötigt. Durch zahlenmäßig genaue Feststellung der effektiven Größe einer geleisteten Arbeit, z. B. am Fahrradergometer, und gleichzeitige exakte Ermittlung des hierbei vor sich gehenden Sauerstoffverbrauches lassen sich ganz bestimmte Beziehungen zwischen diesen beiden Größen konstatieren. Aus der beigefügten illustrativen Skizze, welche dem Buche von Bainbridge 1) entnommen, ist zu ersehen, daß der Sauerstoffverbrauch proportional mit der Größe des Arbeitsausmaßes ansteigt; die gegenseitige Beziehung der beiden Werte wird durch eine gerade Linie versinnbildlicht.
