Abstract

Laparoscopic colon resection may be considered whenever resection of a segment of colon is required. Large masses such as a phlegmon in Crohn’s disease or a large bulky tumor may not be amenable to the laparoscopic technique. Laparoscopic colectomy is most commonly performed for one of the following indications:

  1. a.

    Endoscopically unresectable benign colon polyps

  2. b.

    Crohn’s disease

  3. c.

    Volvulus

  4. d.

    Diverticulitis

  5. e.

    Colon carcinoma
