Abstract

When the members of the pairs of chromosomes separate from one another during meiosis, the distribution of paternal and maternal chromosomes to the reproductive cells that are formed takes place “at random”. Out of tens of millions of spermatozoa emitted, which one succeeds in fertilising the egg is the result of “chance”.
