Site Investigation

  • Walter Wittke

In rock mechanics, it has proven advisable to prepare the required information step-by-step the first preliminary reconnaissance via the detailed investigation in the design phase to the observation of the engineering structure under construction and in operation. The results of a given stage in the site investigation may then be progressively introduced as appropriate into the design and construction phases. This procedure, although developed mindful of economics, nevertheless requires a sufficient period of time for investigation and flexible financing [17.22, 17.27].
