Summary
The clinical evaluation of a new diuretic agent is the comprehensive assessment of its clinical utility and safety. The mode of action, comparative effectiveness in relation to other drugs and areas of practical application are defined by well planned and executed pharmacologic studies. A definition of risk is achieved through routine safety assessment and by special studies of organ function in all patients receiving the compound.
