Abstract
As we are all aware, two major forms of protein-calorie malnutrition, namely kwashiorkor and marasmus, have been recognised. The crucial question of practical significance is: are these two forms of protein-calorie malnutrition attributable to two entirely different types of dietary situations and do they, therefore, call for two entirely different methods of approach with regard to prevention and control ? or do they represent two facets of one and the same disease with the same dietary background ?
