Photoisomerizations involving nitrogen compounds

Abstract

Irradiation of aryl aldoximes in a variety of solvents leads to the formation of amides [1] besides geometrical isomerization. Syn-benzaldehyde oxime (1), for instance, gives benzamide (2). It was suggested [1] that this Beckmann type rearrangement might involve oxaziridines as intermediates (see below).
