Zusammenfassung
Für das Verständnis der Physiologie und Pathophysiologie der Sexualfunktionen ist die Kenntnis der Entwicklung der Keimdrüsen im Fetus wichtig. Die Gonaden entwickeln sich aus 2 unterschiedlichen Geweben: Das somatische mesenchymale Gewebe formt die Matrix für die Gonaden, während das primordiale Keimgewebe das Muttergewebe für die sich später entwickelnden Gameten darstellt. Das primordiale Keimgewebe wandert etwa in der 3. Schwangerschaftswoche in die Matrix des mesenchymalen Gewebes ein. In dieser Zeit ist es noch nicht möglich, zwischen männlichen und weiblichen Gonaden zu unterscheiden ; man bezeichnet sie daher als indifferent.
