Activation by Epithermal Neutrons

  • Chapter
Neutron Physics

Abstract

The considerations begun in Chapter 11 will now be extended to the practically important case in which the neutron field contains both thermal and epithermal neutrons. The very same activity that can be excited by absorption of thermal neutrons in the probe substance can also be excited by absorption of epithermal neutrons, and it is necessary to separate these two parts by additional measurements. In doing so we simultaneously obtain information about the epithermal neutron flux.
