Classifications of Causes of Failures

  • Chapter
Models of Failure

Abstract

Failures of a unit can be classified according to various criteria. One of the more frequently used criteria is the place of failure. With this classification, we need to identify the unit as a whole, its connections, various details regarding the connections, and various elements of the details. In what follows, we shall single out only two categories of objects: a system, which is a device containing several parts, and an element, which constitutes some part of a system.
