Abstract
Horizontal velocities in the photosphere are an important “driver” in theories of coronal heating because they generate field-aligned currents by slow twisting and tangling of magnetic field lines and wave modes by higher frequency perturbations. As a first attempt to provide observational constraints for theories of these processes, we present temporal power spectra and other statistics for measured horizontal velocities and for the their curl and divergence.
