Abstract

Cooley in 1945 and Rundles and Falls in 1946 described a form of hereditary hypochromic hypersideraemic anaemia which proved to be sex-linked and occurs only in males. In 1957, Heilmeyer suggested the name anaemia hypochromica sideroachrestica hereditaria for this condition, in which there is a disturbance in haemoglobin synthesis associated with accumulation of iron in the bone marrow and in other iron depots.
