Zusammenfassung
Unter einer infektiösen, meist bakteriellen Endokarditis (zur Terminologie siehe Kap. 1) ist ein entzündlicher Prozeß im Bereich der Herzklappen, des muralen Endokards oder des Endothels der herznahen großen Arterien zu verstehen. Bei kardiovaskulären Fehlbildungen bestehen in vielen Fällen im Bereich des Defektes turbulente Blutströmungen, die zu Läsionen des benachbarten Endokards bzw. Endothels führen können (14). Auf diesen Bezirken entwickeln sich thrombotische Auflagerungen, an die sich vor allem grampositive Bakterien anheften können (Abb. 5.1). Bei Bakteriämien mit ausreichend hoher Keimzahl droht dem Patienten die Entstehung einer Endokarditis.
