Zusammenfassung
SO2 ist in Wasser ziemlich gut löslich, die Löslichkeit beträgt bei 15 °C etwa 45 Vol. SO2 in 1 Vol. H2O. Aus der sauren Lösung läßt sich weder durch Einengen noch durch Abkühlen das hypothetische H2SO3 gewinnen16). Aufgrund von Raman-Spektren1) enthält die Lösung hauptsächlich physikalisch gelöstes SO2 und daneben die Ionen H3O+, HSO3 − und, bei höheren Konzentrationen, S2O5 2−. Beim Einengen erhält man SO2 und H2O, beim Abkühlen kristallisiert das Gashydrat SO2 · ≈ 7 H2O aus.
