Neben den technischen Anwendungen der Holographie, wie der zerstörungsfreien Werkstoffprüfung und holographisch-optischen Elementen, sind zwei weitere wichtige und expansive Bereiche die Verwendung der Holographie in der Kunst und auf dem Gebiet der Kommunikation. Die sehr rasche Entwicklung und international weit verbreitete Anwendung der Holographie im Bereich der Kommunikation macht es unmöglich, an dieser Stelle einen umfassenden Überblick zu geben.
