Nach Abschnitt 8.7 läßt sich jede positive Zahl als n-te Potenz einer positiven Zahl darstellen, wenn n eine bestimmte, von Null verschiedene Zahl ist. Umgekehrt kann man die Aufgabe stellen: „Wie lauten die Exponenten, wenn alle positiven Zahlen a als Potenzen einer bestimmten Basis b dargestellt werden sollen?“
