Zusammenfassung
Die Follikelzellen des Ovars (N), die in der vorliegenden elektronenmikroskopischen Aufnahme in niedriger Vergrößerung gezeigt werden, umgrenzen einen zystenförmigen Hohlraum, in dem das Ei oder Ovum (O) heranreift. Der Follikel entsteht als Zellknospe aus der Rindenschicht des Ovars, dem Keimepithel. Eine der Zellen dieser Knospe wird zum Ei und bildet zusammen mit den anderen umhüllenden Zellen den Primärfollikel. Diese Follikel stehen unter hormonaler Kontrolle, doch reagieren während der Geschlechtsreife bei Säugern nur gewisse Primärfollikel auf das follikelstimulierende Hormon (FSH), das vom Hypophysenvorderlappen abgesondert wird. Dann machen Ei und Follikelepithel eine ausgedehnte Reifezeit durch. Das Stroma des Ovars ordnet sich als sphärische Epithelhülle um das Ei und bildet so die Theka. Follikel und Theka zusammen bringen nicht nur die reife Eizelle hervor, sie produzieren auch zwei Hormone, die für die Erhaltung des normalen Zyklus entscheidend sind.
