Phase Transitions in Surface Films

Dynamics of Gas-Surface Interaction

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Chemical Physics ((CHEMICAL,volume 21))

Abstract

Various two-dimensional phases are stable when adsorbed on crystalline surfaces. It is shown how the reduced dimensionality and the surface symmetry can produce some original properties in two-dimensional matter. The subject is illustrated by a few typical examples taken among the order-disorder, solid-solid and gas-liquid transitions.
