Abstract

Several authors have suggested that computed tomography (CT) is highly valuable for the preoperative staging of esophageal carcinoma [1, 3–6]. However, there are only a few studies with small numbers of patients which rigorously compare the radiological with the surgical and pathological findings [2, 3, 7]. Thus, definite conclusions cannot be drawn from these observations.
