Zusammenfassung

Die Aufgabe, den altersabhängigen Funktionswandel der Blutzellen zu umreißen, wird durch die Abtrennung zweier Kardinalfunktionen dieser Zellen, der an das Hämoglobin gebundenen Funktionen der O2-Aufnahme, des O2-Transports und der O2-Abgabe (vgl. S. 310), sowie der den Plasmazellen eigenen Funktion der Antikörperbildung (vgl. S. 356 und S. 362ff.) stark eingeschränkt. Das gilt um so mehr, als über die verbleibenden echten Zellfunktionen nur wenig vergleichende Beobachtungen vorliegen (27); denn man sollte sich darüber im klaren sein, daß nicht jeder in der Einzelzelle nachgewiesene Stoffwechselprozeß mit einer Funktion der Gesamtzelle identisch sein muß.
